There's no reason why the file MUST be overwritten (it's not re-using the bits, after all) and if the new maps you load don't work, or even if they're a completely different mapset for an area you may be visiting, then after that trip is over you can rename your original mapset back to gmapsupp.img to get your old maps back, or to keep multiple mapsets in the gps. In fact it makes a lot of sense on 60/76 units to rename the file called gmapsupp.img to a different name before loading new maps. If MapInstall works as it promises, it will load the maps to compatible gps units into separate files, ultimately making it easier to keep individual maps updated on the gps.Īs long as you know that using the new MapInstall with your 60 will wipe out existing maps, as Mapsource would do too of course, then there's no problem.
